Most problems in family relationships—including those between parents and children—stem from parenting errors, specifically a failure to guide the child out of childhood at the right time. Children often fail to transition from the stage of childhood (typical of ages 6–7) to a stage characterized by service to and respect for their parents. The result is the extremely serious issue of infantilism. A family psychologist’s advice to parents regarding infantilism is this: "It is crucial to help the child develop good character traits and a strong personality before the age of 16." If this period before age 16 is missed, repairing the relationship with the child later—even with the help of excellent psychologists—will be both costly and extremely difficult. Parents draw on various sources of information when raising their children. A good option is to consult experienced individuals—such as other parents or psychologists—who already have adult children. Regarding child-rearing, psychologists advise that "every child is unique; therefore, it is advisable to consult an analytical psychologist from the time of the child's birth until they reach adulthood." If parents fail to properly raise the child or establish a good relationship by age 16, rectifying the situation later—even with the best psychologists—will be prohibitively expensive and practically impossible. In summary, the psychologist’s advice to parents is clear: "It is far more effective and much less expensive to utilize a psychologist's expertise while the child is still under 16."
